#35 - 🎉 Zapier Central is now Zapier Agents and Open AI introduces Operator.
When will the AI browser agent surpass Zapier’s 7,000+ integrations?
Hello Everyone and AI Agents (not sure for this one),
This week has been incredible, and I’ve been closely following how Zapier and OpenAI are pushing boundaries. Zapier became the first integration for ChatGPT two years ago. In 2024, Zapier acquired Operator (not an AI product) and launched Zapier Agents to tackle more complex automation with AI. Now, OpenAI has launched Operator, a direct competitor to automation platforms like Zapier.
Zapier’s huge advantage remains its massive catalog of 7,000+ app integrations. It’s more reliable right now—but for how long? When will the AI browser agent surpass Zapier’s 7,000+ integrations?
It might actually become easier to make apps AI Agent-compatible than building a Zapier integration. Still, for many use cases, browser agents aren’t efficient. They’re more suited for tasks requiring human-like interaction, not for backend-heavy processes like ERP systems or eCommerce. So, we’ll probably see Automation Products focusing more on backend workflows while AI agents specialize in front-end tasks.
That said, Zapier is mass-market, and I expect them to try competing with OpenAI. They could do something amazing by combining API integrations with browser-based automation. I can’t wait to see how this evolves!
